Troubleshooting Snow Cat Overheating
  1. Engine 300 CID Ford must be equipped with 17-inch diameter fan blade.

  2. Radiator must be equipped with fan shroud.

  3. Recirculation of hot air from the engine compartment must be prevented from re-entering the radiator.

To prevent this, ensure foam rubber is installed top and bottom of the radiator to plug any recirculation air gaps.

To check for recirculation, hold your hands in from of the radiator after the engine is warmed up and running at 3,000 RPM's. If recirculation is occurring, you should be able to feel warm air coming forward out of the engine compartment.

Suggest foam rubber be glued in place.

  4. Lower chassis side cover access plates are to be replaced with protective screen covers.

  5. Engine thermostat to be changed from 190° F to 160° F.

  6. Coolant collection tank will assist in preventing loss of coolant.

  7. Installation of electrical fuel pump will reduce vapor locking.

  8. Check engine timing and for summer operation hold it 6° to 8° BTDC.

  9. Keep air inlet clear of debris to maintain maximum airflow.

"Do not operate engine or transmission in overheated condition. Failure will result."
