GENERAL INFORMATION, PARTS, REPAIR/TROUBLESHOOTING
Symptom:
Differential is overheating.
Possible Cause:
Steering bands are dragging.
Remedy:
Adjust steering bands. click here
Possible Cause:
Driver is steering vehicle improperly.
Remedy:
Read and follow operating instructions for steering vehicle in owner's manual.
Possible Cause:
Low oil level.
Remedy:
Add oil to proper level and see "Differential is losing oil" section of Troubleshooting here.
Possible Cause:
Bearing Failure.
Remedy:
Inspect all bearings. See procedure for "Checking Bearing Fit."
Possible Cause:
Wrong oil in differential.
Remedy:
Drain oil and replace with Conoco DN-600 or equivalent.
Possible Cause:
Broken or chipped teeth on any of the differential gears.
Remedy:
Inspect all gears and replace as needed.
Possible Cause:
Slave cylinder malfunction.
Remedy:
Repair slave cylinders using proper kits ordered from Thiokol. Model 1200 part # is 1319237, kit # KT-1218-1. Model 2100 part # is 1209050, kit # KT-02-100-017.
